Different types of motorhomes

Nasturtium

Its main feature is the extension above the cab , like a hood (hence its name). This makes it slightly taller than other types of motorhomes.

In this space above the cab, there’s a double bed, which gives these types of motorhomes more interior space and makes them feel more spacious . The lounge can be converted into a bed, and some larger models also have bunk beds. They’re ideal for families , as they can accommodate up to seven people.

This peculiar design of overcab motorhomes makes them less aerodynamic and fuel consumption is somewhat higher.

Low Profile

The design of low-profile motorhomes is similar to a van. Furthermore, by not increasing the height of the cab, they are more aerodynamic and maneuverable , and more fuel-efficient.

In the case of low-profile motorhomes, the main bed is usually located at the rear of the vehicle, which reduces the interior space. Some larger models also have a drop-down bed above the living area that folds down for sleeping. These types of motorhomes are ideal for couples .

Depending on the interior layout, you will have different characteristics. For example:

  • With a transverse bed: this model has a large garage , where you can store many things, such as bikes, a table, chairs…
  • French bed: in this layout the bed is located to one side and occupies a large part of the interior space.
  • Island bed: in this case the bed is centered at the rear of the vehicle and gives a greater sense of spaciousness, but you lose garage space.
  • Two separate beds (with the option to join them) : This layout allows you to create two independent spaces and is a good option if you’re traveling with children or teenagers. It also provides ample storage space.

A-Class

Integrated motorhomes have a design similar to a minibus . The most distinctive feature of this type of motorhome is its spacious driving area with a panoramic front.

The entire living area and cab are integrated (hence the name), making the interior very spacious . They typically feature a large lounge at the rear, and the main bed folds up above the driving area.

They are not as aerodynamic as the streamlined ones and they weigh more, so fuel consumption also increases . They are the most expensive .

Within the category of fully integrated motorhomes, there’s an even more advanced type: the extendable motorhome . These motorhomes feature pull-out units that further expand the interior space. A category C driving license is sometimes required to drive this type.

We believe there isn’t one type that’s better than another; it just depends on your needs. We’ve included a comparison chart to help you see the main differences.
